OverviewOverview: Super leaders is a middle and high school-based youth leadership and drug prevention program for at-risk but talented students. Founded in 1985 by former Redskin Brig Owens, Esq., Super Leaders is based on the traditional values of honesty and respect with a focus on positive peer leadership, group support and self-empowerment.  The Super Leaders program identifies and trains a team of students in selected schools to resist the negative pressures of their homes, schools and neighborhood environments. ActivitiesActivities: We are currently in seven metropolitan Washington DC area high schools- 4 in the District, 1 in Ann Arundel County, 1 in Prince George’s County, 1 in Montgomery County and expect to acquire 1 in Northern Virginia (to be announced). Each year at least 300-500 students are enrolled as full-time Super Leaders. However, many more students benefit since the entire student-body of each Super Leaders school is exposed to the program concept and philosophy through school-wide assemblies, rap sessions, discussions, fundraisers and exchange programs with other area schools. Golf Tournament: Brig Owens and Super Leaders look forward to hosting the19th Annual Brig Owens Celebrity Golf Classic at Westfields Golf Club. At Westfields, Fred Couples has built a course that is, at once, fun and accessible for the novice, while challenging and thought-provoking for the experienced golfer. About Us: The Super Leaders program identifies and trains a team of students in selected schools to resist the negative pressures of their home, school and neighborhood environments. Superleaders develops these students to be positive role models and peer leaders in the effort to prevent substance abuse, violence, teen pregnancy, AIDS, academic failure and other problems effecting their peers and younger children. The program also focuses on life skills and physical fitness initiatives.
